The 12th century church is central to the village and many cobbled streets and lanes radiate from there.
La Vielle Ferme du Monteil is just a five minute walk down the farm track
to the picturesque village of Augé with post office, bar and
restaurant. The many quiet 'chenim ' or country lanes are idea for
cycling, walking or for that morning run. You are also welcome to use
the tennis courts at the bottom of our farm track.
The
town of St. Maixent L'Ecole, steeped in military history and just 8km
away, has many boulangerie and pâtisserie selling delicious
breads, croissants and cakes. The Saturday market sells fresh
fish, meats, vegetables and olives. Try some of the many regional
specialities such as 'Fromage de chèvre' (goat's cheese) and Pineau de
Charentes' a local apéritif.
Many
of the surrounding towns , including Niort 20 minutes away, have
weekly markets, all on different days so you will never miss the
thrill of shopping at these wonderful places.
Those
feeling more adventurous can choose from a range of activities
including treetop climbing parks , karting, canoeing and horse riding.
Cherveux just five minutes away has a new riding school with
trekking available for all ages.
The
stunning course 'Golf du Petit Chêne' set amongst beautiful
parkland, lakes and ancient trees is a ten minute drive from the house.
There is an 18 hole course, small nine hole course and practice range overlooked
by the magnificent salmon pink château which houses the club house and
restaurant.
Many more courses are available within 30 minutes of the property so you are spoiled for choice.
