 The Poitou Charente is truly a wonderful and versatile region. There is so much choice that we can only touch on a few  places and activities  but please use the links on the next page to explore further.
 One of the regions  main attractions is the Marais Poitevin or 'Green Venice' with miles of shaded waterways to explore. We are just 30 minutes from Coulon, one of the marshland villages with riverside restaurants, cafés  and museum.

 Hire one of the traditional flat bottomed punts, with or without a guide, and sail along the miles of tree-lined canals or hire bicycles and explore the cool, shaded lanes. Picnic under the trees and enjoy a truly unique day out.
 The Atlantic Coast with miles of sandy beaches and La Rochelle are just one hour away. This fabulous city is steeped in history and has some wonderful middle ages and Renaissance architecture. The Vieux Port (the old port) is busy with pleasure boats and the quayside is full of  restaurants offering 'Moules' and platters of  'Fruits de Mer'.

 In the summer months many craft stalls line the harbour walls in the shadow of the impressive sister towers of Saint Nicolas and Tour de la Chaîne. Wonderful boutiques can be found in  the old quarter and the beach is just a five minute walk from the city centre for those who wish to escape.








The Ile de Ré, across the bridge from La Rochelle is perfectly flat and therefore  ideal for hiring bicycles and exploring. This incredibly chic island is truly beautiful and a must for a day out.
